Is he laughing at me?

Go ahead and make fun of my appreciation for the practical philosophy of Tim Ferriss, but he’s got insight:

One of the most universal causes of self-doubt and depression: trying to impress people you don’t like. Stressing to impress is fine, but do it for the right people — those whom you want to emulate.

Worrying isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s a basic human defense mechanism. If you’re broke, you should be worried about finding enough money to eat. So you don’t starve to death.

Bad anxiety: trying to control stuff you can’t control. Good anxiety: wanting to make the most of opportunities that will help you get where you want to be. For me, that’s having a job that allows me a few hours a day to play video games while on the treadmill with a Slurpree.

The cause of your unhappiness is that you spend at least two hours a day watching Friends reruns. You have been lulled into thinking that it’s normal to have that many good looking, witty friends.
