What can you say?

The baseball season is so long.

As a positive person, I’m going to try to remember two things from this year: Raburn straight gunning that guy at home plate, and Ernie Harwell’s beautiful farewell speech.

And I’m excited to get to watch Verlander, Jackson, Rick and Miggy grow (hopefully not in the waistline, in the last case) over the next few years.

man i’m still pretty bummed out about that game. ernie harwell deserved better. not because the tigers laid an egg out there, but because it would have been the right way to remember his parting. oh well. disappointment and detroit sports are synonymous once again.

everyone i know is a bunch of bums. never seen such a sad group of sports fans. we fucking did better than expected this year. the lions fucking won a game. um looks better than last year. sparty might be struggling but they got the right pieces and are still alive for a good bowl game. rthe redwings are teh best franchise in all of american sports. the pistons look poised for another trip to the playoffs. real tired of all the hate.

dissapointing fan and broseph are now synonymous in my book.

verbatim convo via text last night:
    jerry: good season.
zach: just same as getting last.

and now zach is the voice of optimism.

that being said, i’m not totally devastated about how things turned out. it’s not like we lost to a much worse team like the 06 Cards, THAT was dissapointing. i think if we played the twins ten times we’d probably lose five times.

yea at the time i was upset. needed to be removed from the situation. but you shoulda heard the people i was watching the game with. youd think they were bandwagon fans.

Michael Moore’s tweet about the game made me mad:

“MMFlint To be a Michigander (16% unemplyd) is to feel defeated & deflated every single day. The Tigers loss tonite was just another (symbolic) blow.”

It’s fine to say that sports success can provide social uplift, but to say that the loss was a blow to the state is stupid. The Tigers are a great franchise.

Re: Jerry’s 10 game scenario. We were 8-12 against the Twins this year, so I guess if we played them 10 times they’d win 6.

I think it’s important to keep in mind that the Tigers were expected to finish 4th in the division this year. Aside from Verlander they had 0 proven reliable starters. Their offense was again, the bullpen was a huge question mark. It was a pretty successful season, they just didn’t have enough at the end. Also while everyone wants to accuse them of “choking” down the stretch, they had a winning record in September. Clearly they didn’t win enough games in the last two weeks, but the twins finished the regular season by going 16-4. That’s just an incredible stretch of baseball. The twins deserve it.

I will say it has been a strange year for sports in Michigan. We have had a number of teams perform at extremely high levels only to come up a little short. From the Tigers losing last night, to the Wings losing in Game 7 of the Finals, and the Spartans losing in the National title game. It’s been a pretty exciting year at the very least.
