I’m a worker so I’m working

No time to get into all the NBA drama, will try to chime in later.

The Spurs deal makes sense fo rboth teams. Clearly the Bucks getting Jefferson last season was a temporary move and the Spurs could obviously use another scorer (which is really all Jefferson is).

I like this move for the Spurs. It basically shows that they are really trying to give it one last good run with their core. Because clearly the Duncan, Parker, Manu trio doesn’t have enough gas left on their own at this point. I think throwing Jefferson into the mix should really help and now the Bucks can (in theory) re-sign Sessions and Villanueva.

  2. York Roberts Says:

Have you heard the Rondo/Scal for Rudy Gay/Mike Conley rumors?

I like Rudy Gay. He’s gonna average 25 ppg. He’s young. Thing is he plays the same position as Paul Pierce and Pierce is getting older…but he isn’t like…retiring next year…or anything.

And I don’t see how the best player from a team gets traded and becomes a bench player for their new team. That shit doesn’t work.

And Mike Conley is a backup PG at best. So unless the Celtics plan to move Ray to starting PG, put Pierce at SG and Gay at SF with KG at PF and Perk at C, I don’t know how that shit works out….

Furthermore I’m not sure why the Grizz want Rondo (or two expiring contracts)…unless they legitimately are planning on going out of business.

  3. Pat Says:

Hmmm that celtic-memphis deal seems like a deal that doesn’t make sense for either team.

The spurs will probably sign a nice veteran to the MLE like Marion or McDyess and go on to win the NBA championship.

It will be interesting to see if and when Duncan’s game starts to decline if the spurs can find a big man replacement and build their team around Tony Parker. The guy is really young still.

If Manu and Duncan were healthy last year, I think they would have taken the Lakers to seven or won. I don’t think they’re that far off, barring injury (big bar.)

  5. indeedindeed Says:

Also, replacing Duncan is totally impossible. What they should do is have him sit out for a year while they collect the number one pick and then reload that way. That would work.

  6. indeedindeed Says:

On Rudy Gay, that was probably the team I watched the absolute least of last season (aside from the Redd-less Bucks.) I don’t know, hasn’t he reached his ceiling of 20 and 5 boards already? What else can he do? I feel like wings who can do that are a dime a dozen.

Speaking of, Chad Ford says Milwaukee would leap to deal Redd for Ben Wall. Isn’t that a gamble Cleveland should take?

  8. York Roberts Says:

I think when you’re a young player playing for a shit team in a shit town you probably have a little more in the tank as far as potential goes. But on Gay, the thing that he could offer the C’s is a cheap as hell year of a consistent scorer (I think he’s expiring too) and if you look at the Celtics playoff run last season, obviously the not having KG on defense thing was a huge hurdle…but their offense wasn’t exactly overwhelmed with scoring options either…not when you need to rely on 2 33 year olds to put up 30+ each a game.

speaking of gay, is zach excited about soccer?

  11. York Roberts Says:

    Shaq to Cleveland?

    How would you coach him?

I would only play him one game a week all season. Like 24 minutes a game. One game a week up until two weeks before the playoffs..

The thing is, the Cavs didn’t need a Center to make it to the playoffs last year. And the most important thing with Shaq is to make sure he’s healthy…

But he’s so damn old. And not only is he old as shit, he’s also a complete offensive liability. The guy plays fine under the basket and can still rebound but have you seen him get knocked down the last few seasons? By the time he gets up the other 9 guys areat the other end of the court. I’m not exaggerating here. I saw him play in person each of the last two seasons…and they don’t show that shit on TV. But he really forces his team to play shorthanded offense for the first 6-10 seconds of the shot clock about 50% of the time.

  12. indeedindeed Says:

Everyone, EVERYONE, in the league loves Shaq. And that Cleveland team loved each other. They’re going to have great chemistry.

Hopefully this Kobe title will have rejuvenated Shaq to get in shape and become a very good player again.

  13. zachary Says:

matt, i just laughed out loud.

  14. leo Says:

i think the cavs have the east wrapped up now.

also, i agree with jerry, the spurs could have taken the lake show last year if even one of the manu/duncan duet were healthy.

i think the nba is ALL about matchups, and any deals going down right now address that fact. if a team is GREAT but need one player to help in a matchup against another GREAT division rival..see the shaq deal…they are going to do it.

i dont know what the celtics or grizzlies are doing either.

  15. indeedindeed Says:

if garnett/allen/pierce are healthy and the celtics can add an athletic perimeter defender, i think they’re just as good as cleveland.

  16. matt Says:

nothing like a little homophobic soccer humor to rile up the midwesterners! gets me every time. the highlights from the game were actually pretty cool. it was just the other 92 mins that were a little boring. and what’s the deal with the noisemaker horns that are so annoying. shaq sucks.

  17. indeedindeed Says:

i’m getting into soccer, i’d kill a man to get down to ciudad de mexico for the world cup qualifier in august.

bill simmons’ column on the clippers yesterday is a tour-de-force. this is why people who like sports don’t read newspapers anymore.

  19. York Roberts Says:

Did you hear about the Simmons vs. Mike Dunleavy war? Duleavy said Simmons has no credibility on Cowherd’s radio show. Simmons spent the afternoon making Dunleavy joeks on his twitter.
