Easing back in

With LeaguePass in my life, I totally burnt myself out on the NBA this season. I can’t imagine what would happen if I got hired to work at a Chinese buffet. That being said, with the draft approaching, this is a fun week to get the juices flowing.

Via Kenny, apparently the Celtics offered Rondo and Ray Allen for Tayshaun, Stuckey, and Rip:

For the Pistons, this deal makes little sense, unless they wanted to let Allen’s expiring deal gain even more salary cap space for the free-agent class of 2010. The idea of trading his three best returners for an expiring contract and one good young player wasn’t worth considering for Dumars, sources said.

Your 09-10 Pistons: Rondo, Ray Allen, Gordon, Maxiell, Amir!

Kenny on the trade:

I HATE Rondo, but that’s mostly because he is on another team. I don’t think the stones would or should make this trade regardless since they would basically be trading three starters for Rondo, and one year of an aging ray allen. Although it would give them even more cap space in 2010.

Pat’s plan to rebuild the Stones:

First, trade Tayshuan, Maxiell and one of the 2nd rounders this season for Chris Bosh.

This trade would work if Toronto was very worried about losing Bosh for nothing in FA next offseason. If they don’t have this fear then it’s highly unlikely they would make this deal, but, tay does fill a big need for toronto at SF and i think they’d be interested in max and a draft pick as well.

So, assuming this deal goes down we need a sf and probably another big…

Now we sign Gordon to a 5 year, 40 milish type deal.

We now have too many sg’s, so let’s trade Rip, Amir and another 2nd round round pick to New Orleans for David West and Morris Peterson. The Hornets would consider this deal becuase they are desperately trying to shed salary and they will entertain the thought of trading west (supposedly) but the key for them is getting rid of MoPete’s contract.

lineup
pg: stuckey/bynum
sg: gordon/AA
sf: MoPete/? FA?
pf: West/attempt to resign mcdyess?
C: Bosh/Kwame

Not sure that team will play good enough defense to be a big winner but they would be much better shooting team than the current pistons. I think West and Bosh could work well together down low since west is such a good jumpshooter. SF would be the big question but mopete is a wily vet and i think he can still be a solid contributor on a contending team.

I think the only major concern with these deals is if the team really struggles you may have a very hard time resigning Bosh the following offseason and that could be very bad news.

Another option, make one of the two trades, maybe subbing in Tay for Rip in the NO deal and then forget ben gordon and try to sign turkeyleg to a reasonable deal to replace tay. I really think NO would consider making one of these deals because they tried to simply give away tyson chandler. They need to shed salary badly and we are a team who can take some on.

York has a plan for Rondo that involves the Hornets:

i get that Rondo is worth more now than ever and is probably going to want more than he’s worth when he’s a free agent, but he’s still a top eight PG in the NBA right now: why trade him and not get a better PG? I would trade him and Ray for Chris Paul and Posey.

I know the Hornets would never do that unless they were going bankrupt (they probably are) and really wanted to have a fire sale to shed cap space.

Rondo is a free agent after 2011 and Ray is after this season. And they overpaid for Posey and Paul is damn expensive.

Still, I wouldn’t be surprised to see teams make those sorts of trades this year. Particularly teams with no cashflow and big name expensive players…

Unfortunately, the bankrupt Kings have no one left…

I don’t know, I’ve heard people say that, but I feel like the franchise is more attractive to other owners/cities if they have the best point in the league.

I agree that there is the possibility of some “firesale” type trades this year, but I agree with Jerry that Paul seems as close to untouchable as anyone in the league not named Lebron.

New Orleans definitely appears to be trying to shed salary, but you still have to field a team, so the ownership is going to spend some money. And they still want to try and attract fans to help recoup the money they spend. I get that NO had major attendance issues last season with a team that was expected to contend. But if they traded CP3, would ANYONE go to a game? You need to try and keep some semblance of a viable product on the court.

I have no idea where Hansborough is going to go (some people are saying lottery!!?!?!!) but I think he’d be nice for them at 20 or 21 or wherever that pick is.
