I’ve been running around

By indeedindeed

I’ve been obsessively listening to Southern rock family Kings of Leon for the past few days. These guys rule, though their music definitely makes me want to quit my job and sleep through the winter in the back of a pickup along the Rio Grande while washing dishes for food at a bar and getting beat up for reading Marx and Freud.

And neither did the boys until late in life. Growing up as the sons of Leon Followill, a traveling Pentecostal minister, Caleb, Nathan and Jared weren’t allowed to listen to secular music — only gospel. “We wouldn’t have gotten caned or anything,” says Nathan. “But there would be a lecture.”

Still, from the start, the boys’ musical influences were forged as a combination of the church choirs they attended each week and the rock & roll songs they listened to on the sly. “I used to sleep with a radio under my pillow and listen to oldies,” says Caleb. “Other nights I’d get a cassette of my dad preaching and listen to that. I’d wake up with the worst cricks in my neck from sleeping on that radio.” (”Now he sleeps with a Valium under his pillow,” Nathan jokes. “No crick.” )

i was listening to the radio and this band was talking about how instead of blowing lines they are trying to figure out how large their carbon footprint is staying at a hotel. damn hippies!

I was listening to sports radio this morning and instead of talking about sports (not that there were any great topics to talk about, all we had yesterday was an msu bball game, a pistons win over the cavs, cmu/ball state, this weekends msu game for a chance to win a share of the Big 10, OSU/UM). Anyway instead he was playing the Chris Farley motivational speaker clip “IN A VAN, DOWN BY THE RIVER”, and then talking about how much Chris farley probably partied after doing that skit.

That turned into a conversation about how he once interviewed some guy that toured with Slash at some point back in the day, and a story slash told him about touring with Ozzie osbourne. Apparently Slash dropped a popsicle stick outside their bus and Ozzie got down on his knees under the bus and started snorting all the ants off the popsicle stick. Ah, the good old days!

I probably should have gone with a different station.

hell yea dude, ozzy knew what was up, get those ants windego! now he has their power inside him. thats what rock is about.

(i hope someone that read this blog has seen ravenous)

why go green when you can go power stance and blow the ear drums of the people in the front row?
