The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford—There are short movies that feel long and long movies that feel short (There Will Be Blood was that for me.) This is a long movie that feels long. Everything about this picture is slow and epic and extended. Not that that’s a bad thing. But watching this sometimes felt like a chore that I was putting myself through, despite great performances from Brad Pitt and especially Casey Affleck.

By the way, Casey Affleck is a wonderful actor, and I never hear about his personal life. He could be married to a Bush twin for all I know. I appreciate that I have no knowledge of anything about the guy and just get to enjoy his acting. Brad Pitt is an underrated actor, but when I’m watching him I’m still watching Brad Pitt, Hollywood, Everywhere, Global Icon.

Baby Mama—This isn’t a perfect movie by any means, but it’s better than the previews may imply. Tina Fey is Queen Midas and Amy Poehler is sometimes bizarre but usually hilarious. These two are really good in this even when the material is so-so.
